Lakeside base camp for the Annapurnas

The place
Phewa Lake on one side, an 8,000 m wall on the other. Pokhara is where treks start, paragliders launch, and travellers slow down for a week without noticing.

Practical
What the locals here get asked before anyone books anything.
The flight from Kathmandu takes about twenty-five minutes and gives you the whole Annapurna wall out of the right-hand window. The tourist coaches take most of a day along the Prithvi Highway. Both are fine; the flight is the one that gets cancelled in bad weather, so leave a spare day before a trek departure.
Lakeside is a single walkable strip along Phewa Lake. Everything else — Sarangkot for sunrise, the World Peace Pagoda, the trailheads — is a short taxi or a rented scooter away. Boats on Phewa are hired by the hour from the eastern shore.
Pokhara is where Annapurna treks are put together: permits, porters, last-minute gear and the drive to the trailhead. A local guide here is arranging the logistics as much as walking with you, and the good ones will tell you when your plan needs a day more than you have given it.
