Pokhara
4.8(156)Annapurna Base Camp Trek
Nine days from Pokhara into the Annapurna Sanctuary — rhododendron forest, Gurung villages and a 360° amphitheatre of peaks at 4,130 m.
From$985$1,120

A tight three-day weekend: red-dune desert camp, Burj Khalifa at sunset, old Deira souks and a dhow dinner on the creek.
Dubai works well as a long weekend if someone else handles the logistics, and that is exactly what this is. Day one is old Dubai — the creek, the abra crossing and the gold and spice souks in Deira, which is the part first-time visitors most often skip and most regret skipping.
Day two is the red dunes at Al Marmoom with dune driving, camel riding and an overnight desert camp under the stars. Day three is modern Dubai from the top of the Burj Khalifa at golden hour. Private vehicle throughout with an English and Arabic-speaking host.
Day by day, as it actually runs.
Airport pickup and check-in. Afternoon in Al Fahidi's wind-tower lanes, then an abra across the creek for one dirham to the Deira spice and gold souks. As the light goes we board a dhow for dinner along the creek with the old city on both banks.
Late-morning start with time to swim. Drive to the Al Marmoom reserve for dune bashing in the afternoon cool, camel riding and sandboarding for anyone who wants it. Sunset over the dunes, then a BBQ dinner at camp with live oud and falconry, and beds under the sky.
Sunrise over the dunes, breakfast at camp and back to the city by midday. Free afternoon at Dubai Mall or the beach, then the Burj Khalifa golden-hour slot on levels 124 and 125 with the whole coastline below. Airport transfer for evening flights.

The desert camp was far better than the packaged safaris — small group, no coach parties, actual silence at night. Burj Khalifa at sunset is worth the timed slot.

Great itinerary and a lovely host. Day 3 is a little rushed if you have an early evening flight — I would add a night.
